Apana campaign fundraiser Thursday

Democratic state House candidate James "Kimo" Apana will hold a campaign fundraiser beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Maui Waena Intermediate School cafeteria, according to an announcement.

The event will feature a baked ham dinner, door prizes and entertainment. Tickets are available for $10.

Apana, a former Maui County mayor and council member, is seeking election to the 9th District seat, which includes Kahului, old Sand Hills, Maui Lani and Puunene. The seat currently is held by Rep. Justin Woodson, who was appointed to the position by Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Arakawa headquarters opening Thursday

The Friends of Mayor Alan Arakawa has announced a grand opening celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday for the mayor's campaign headquarters at the Wakea Business Center, 180 Wakea Ave. in Kahului.

"Over the last few weeks, we have been getting it ready," Arakawa said. "The time will finally come for us to open our doors."

The event will feature food and an opportunity for those attending to learn about Arakawa's record as mayor and to see how they can help with his re-election, the mayor's campaign Chairwoman Lynn Araki-Regan said.
