To alert my fellow citizens in need of medical help, I must confess to what may have been a foolish act on my part.
I am a veteran, with a problem needing attention. But I don't have the $4,000 to $6,000 in my own pocket to pay for it, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, for all the excellent services it gives, apparently does not have it either. So I was told to go to the Medicaid offices in Wailuku - maybe they could help me.
There, I had to fill out documents supplying all the assets I have. Then I was told it might take who knows how long to get an answer.
Within three days, I got a letter informing me I did not qualify. The maximum amount of assets could not be just over $7,000. Why didn't the people in the office just give me the figure and that would have been the end of the matter?
Now all that information is in the hands of - who knows?
