AROUND THE TOWN . . . Spotted famous chefs Mark Tarbell and Dean Fearing at last week's film fest. Both men appeared in "Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon." They stayed at Shep's house, and dined at his Mala Wailea and Migrant restaurants.
The two are gearing up to make celebrity appearances at Kapalua Wine & Food Festival this weekend (Dining Out).
By the way, Migrant Executive Chef Sheldon Simeon was recently presented with a formal resolution from the County of Maui in recognition of his culinary accomplishments, which include winning "Best New Chef in the Northwest and Pacific Region" in Food & Wine. There is now a "Sheldon Simeon Day" here.
Visiting celebrity chefs Dean Fearing (left) and Mark Tarbell flank Executive Chef Sheldon Simeon of Migrant. The three will cook at Kapalua Wine & Food Festival this weekend.
Migrant is offering a kamaaina discount of 25 percent off all food seven days a week from opening at 5 p.m. to closing at 10:30 p.m. "We have been building a really strong local clientele, which makes Sheldon very happy!" says Manager Melanie Wicker.
Four other celebrities attending the film fest dined at Alan Wong's Amasia at Grand Wailea before Seaside Cinema films. They were Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, "X-Man" James Marsden and "Triple Threat" Joe Manganiello, who all the ladies adored.
A celebrity chef himself, Wong will be back on island on Wednesday for the Midsummer Feast wine dinner at his restaurant. Courses include Hawaiian kampachi crudo; dried scallop with prosciutto; butter-poached Keahole lobster; broiled butterfish; and Yunan rack of lamb. The five-course feast costs $75 per person. Add $50 for wine pairings. Call 891-3954.
