World Cup hopes run dry for U.S. fans

July 2, 2014
The Maui News

(First photo) Waiehu's Kalani Kahalekulu hangs his head Tuesday afternoon at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center after the U.S. soccer team's World Cup hopes were dashed by Belgium in Brazil. Flag-waving Kahalekulu watched the game at the MACC, which offered viewing for free on both a big screen inside the Castle Theater and on a television set up in the Founders Courtyard. Kahalekulu said he traveled to South Africa for the World Cup in 2010 and endured a 2-1 U.S. loss to Ghana in extra time. The score was the same, 2-1, Tuesday, also in extra time in Brazil. For more on the match, see Sports.
