Okamura tied for first at eGolf Tour event
Garrett Okamura of Wailuku shot a 6-under-par 65 to share the lead after the first round of the eGolf Tour's Southern Open on Wednesday at Kannapolis, N.C.
Jack Fields of Southern Pines, N.C., and Jesse Hutchins of Kirkersville, Ohio, also are tied for first at The Club at Irish Creek.
Okamura, making just his third career start on the eGolf Tour, started on the back nine and birdied Nos. 1, 2, 5, 11, 13 and 15.
The four-round event has 117 players.
Fernando goes 3-2 at USTA Pacific zone event
Kamalii Elementary School 5th-grader Nikki Fernando finished 3-2 during the USTA Boys' and Girls' 12 Pacific Zone Team Championships at Tucson, Ariz.
Fernando competed for the Hawaii team, which finished fifth. The tournament, which concluded Monday, consisted of the top six boys and girls from each region.
Fernando was also the recipient of the Hawaii team's sportsmanship award.
King Kekaulike football tryouts July 21-23
The King Kekaulike High School football team will be holding tryouts at the school's field July 21-23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
