Three Maui golfers finish in second place
Three Maui golfers finished runners-up in a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association All Ages Junior Tour Series event, which wrapped up Friday at Honolulu Country Club.
The golfers were Makawao's Joy Callian (86-89-175) in the girls 11-12 division; Kahului's Jordan Terada (82-77-159) in the boys 13-14 divison; and Wailuku's Tyler Munetake (75-70-145) in the boys 15-18 division.
Other Mauians in the event were Kahului's Anson Cabello (fifth, 92-98-190) in boys 7-10; Haiku's Summer Wong (third, 98-88-186) in girls 7-10; and Wailuku's Chad Lee (third, 82-79-161) in boys 13-14.
Central East Maui wins state tourney opener
Connor Palmeira hit a grand slam in the first inning and Kaipo Haole pitched a complete game as Central East Maui beat Waipio 4-3 in the Little League Majors (11-12) Division State Tournament on Friday at Pride Field on Oahu.
Palmeira's blast was to left-center field, and Haole allowed five hits.
CEM will face Honolulu today 10 a.m.
Maui Scout Baseball will be holding tryouts
The Maui Scout Baseball League is holding tryouts for its 18U and 15U fall wood bat programs.
The 2014 season runs from August to October.
Tryout participants must be at least 13 years old and have a completed waiver with parent or guardian signature on file to participate.

Softball registration for ages 6-14 being held
The Department of Parks and Recreation's South Maui district is holding registration for softball players 6-14 years old.
The program, which will return to a slow-pitch format, will start in August.
