Napili man dies, found under fallen tree
A 57-year-old Napili man died late Monday afternoon after he was found underneath a large fallen tree, police said.
Joseph Bento had been clearing his property in Honokohau Valley on the west side when he was found by a friend at around 5 p.m., police said.
Bento was unconscious with multiple injuries. Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy.
Fire crews monitor brush fire in Maalaea
With a 30-acre brush fire in Maalaea contained but not extinguished Tuesday evening, fire crews were monitoring it throughout the night.
Firefighters responded to the scene mauka of Honoapiilani Highway at 9:14 a.m., finding the fire on the slope of a mountain, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
The area was inaccessible to ground crews, and two helicopters responded, containing about 85 percent of the fire by 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said.
Nine members of the Fire Department's wildland team and nine Department of Forestry and Wildlife workers, along with a helicopter, continued mop-up operations throughout the day Tuesday. By 6 p.m., the fire was considered 100 percent contained, Mainaga said.
The fire's cause remained undetermined, he said.
Waterline repairs result in a pool closure
The Lahaina Aquatic Center will be closed through Thursday due to emergency repairs needed on a major waterline, the county Department of Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division announced.
The closure began Tuesday.

Missed trash route in Kula due to staffing
A Kula trash route was missed Tuesday due to a staffing shortage, the county Solid Waste Division announced.
The missed pickup is expected to be made up today.
Areas affected include Ainakua, Holopuni, Lower Kula, Omaopio, Piliwale and Pulehu roads; Akea Place, Ka, Kimo and Mano drives, Kulamanu Circle and Kulalani Circle and Drive and all surrounding streets.
