Ka'ala Buenconsejo is a new County Council candidate running for the West Maui seat.
In the last week I have received four mail pieces: three 8.5-by-11-inch glossy flyers and a bigger three-fold glossy. In addition, he has regular spots running on Pandora radio.
He plans to cut waste, invest in parks, public safety and the future. Sure, and motherhood and apple pie for all.
While the big fold-out is from "Friends of KB," the others fliers are from "Maui Timeshare Ohana PAC," and two from "Forward Progress."
All three have small print saying: "Published without the approval and authority of the candidate."
You have to wonder who are these supporters? Where does an upstart find anonymous backers with such fat wallets? And who is Forward Progress? There's a campaign strategy firm in Chicago with that name. So, who's putting up the funds?
My guess is that Monsanto has found a someone who will fit in with the other sock puppets on the council so they may all unanimously agree to see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil about the dangerous and reckless use of pesticides on plantation lands.
I'm sticking with Elle Cochran and urging everyone I know to do the same. Elle is her own person, willing to stand up for the people, able to ask the hard questions.
My concern is for the aina and the keiki.
