Sept. 11 new date for Blackburn event

A campaign event for Maui County Council candidate Joe Blackburn has been rescheduled to Sept. 11.

"Grow with Joe Blackburn" will be hosted at the Bailey House Museum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature music by Na Hoa & The Kekona Ohana, as well as food and an open bar. Rodney Villanueva will emcee.

Blackburn is seeking the council's Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu residency seat.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and emergency service providers (firefighters, police, medics, lifeguards, veterans, doctors and nurses).

Mike Molina nets group endorsements

The Hawaii Government Employees Association, the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association and the Sierra Club have endorsed former Council Member Mike Molina in his bid to recapture his former Makawao-Haiku-Paia residency seat.

That seat is held by Council Member Mike White, who will face Molina in the Nov. 4 general election. Molina served five terms on the County Council from 2001 to 2010.
