Trying to cool off; record heat Tuesday

September 4, 2014

Bay Area brothers-in-law Pal Saechao (left) and Mike Asuncion shower off at Ulua Beach during a family outing Wednesday afternoon. Asuncion said the temperatures did not seem as hot as Tuesday when Kahului tied a record high temperature of 93 degrees. “It’s a lot cooler today than it was yesterday,” he said. Tuesday’s hot Kahului day tied a record set in 1997. National Weather Service meteorologist Matthew Foster attributed the heat to weak trade winds and an abundance of sunlight. Temperatures typically reach the 90s during this time of the year, he said. “I wouldn’t read too much into it. You just happened to have a sunny day with little wind.”
