Molokai Ranch were the original sellers of lots in Manaloa Village, and still own some for sale. A big incentive for people like myself was buying a lot within walking distance to a store and other "village" services. Now they close the village (i.e., the store, gas station, theater, and hotel with bar, restaraunt and excercise facilities for visitors)? Sounds like "bait and switch" or false advertizing to me! Now, after we build, we'll have to drive to get food or gas?

Take back the land!

An old adage to the folks of Molokai: "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." Shunning the respect and assistance of newcomers limits your efforts toward self determination. Because Molokai Ranch has failed you is insufficient reason to lump all outsiders as invaders. Many of us respect your stand. However, to prosper, shake a welcoming hand, kiss an extended cheek and accept offered wisdom. Molokai has much beauty. May its people be as beautiful.

To best describe Molokai Properties Ltd. actions, I choose the words "squeeze play". The employees have again been used as the expendable pawns in a bully's brutal game. No multi-billion dollar corporation would ever put all their eggs in one basket and have survived for so long. To imply that the La'au development is the only survival for Molokai Properties Ltd. clearly points to a disaster of administrative management. Don't blame the Moloka'i community for protecting themselves, instead, blame Molokai Ranch's foreign investor for not providing their employees protection.

Would this have happened if the Molokai Ranch was owned and operated by true Molokaians? I dont think so, the "rich foreighners" are looking to make more money off of our natural resources without giving back to the people who actually love and care for the aina. Let the Ranch do for the people what the people can do for the ranch, cultivate natural resources, create a sustainable community, bring families togather. Dont turn Molokai into another Maui, we are croweded and losing our natural resources to the hotels and "visitors". Good job opponents, you worked hard and long in a process that seemed to be stronger than the people but in the end - YOU WON! goodbye devil aussie man!

I wonder sometimes whether a college education is really worth it these days. I mean look at the MDs coming out, all brainwashed into curing the most common ailments with patented drugs that are making us sicker. The state needs to get in there, buy up the 50,000 acres put it into a trust and turn it over to the people of Moloka'i to cultivate and create their own sustainable future.

Here we go again! This makes me so sick and disgusted! This is the exact strategy people with big money do in dividing and breaking a close knit community of families and friends who survived, got along and who most importantly knew each other forever, way before this project ever came about. It saddens me greatly, that one project has done just this! It is not the fault of the opponents of this project that is to blamed for lay offs, it is the responsibility of the developer, who only uses the people of Molokai to their personal gain. As an outsider, who was born and raised on the islands, it is so obvious. We are all faced with this similar situation and it happens everywhere, especially in rural communities, where the hawaiian culture is still alive and well, unfortunately, those on the opposite side, really should be commended, for standing up and preserving whatever is left from our ancestors. If the Ranch is so important in keeping Jobs, then the people need to buy the ranch...

SAD TO PENALIZE RESIDENCE FOR NOT WANTING TO BUILD, CAUSE GREEDY DEVELOPERS WANT TO CASH IN ON SPEC HOMES FOR THE WEALTHY. MOLOKAI RESIDENCE ARE NOT STUBBORN LIKE MENTION IN THE ARTICLE. HAWAII DICTATORS NEED TO FOCUS ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT " THE CHILDREN OF HAWAII" NOT THE TOURIST DOLLARS AND SPEC HOMES
