I think the Superferry is great also. Because that is one way bringing your car that way you dont have to spend money on renting car. Just bring your own transportation. My parents from Maui did that. They find it really a nice way that Superferry letting the people bring their own car in the ferry. What if the Go and Hawaiian Airlines went down who are you going to chose now? I guess you have to force yourself to deal with the Superferry. All I can say is give the Superferry a chance.

All indications are that the superferry will never develop a level of ridership that will pay the cost of operating the boat. It is just a matter of time before the economic realities set in and shut it down. That said I have two concerns: 1) One is the damage to the harbor from the silt kicked up by the water jets. What effect is this silt loading having on the harbor marine life? 2) My second concern is the talk about the weld cracks in the hull. Fatigue from operating in heavy seas will cause these to expand and deepen. How much water can the hull take before it goes down? Dr. L

You folks know that the Superferry is currently selling tickets at a loss. This is a standard method of trying to build up customers, however it has been going on since last December with no build up in customers happening. I see that they are still running their loss leader of $49 one way in August now (it used to be higher). They don't show the fuel charge which is almost 50% meaning about $74 one way. At some point they have to raise prices to cover their costs. With the loss-leader prices extending on into the fall, one wonders how long they can continue losing money on every trip. So what I want to say is watch out. At some point this operation has to make a profit and at that point it will be MORE expensive not less than airflight because their fuel cost per passenger is BIGGER than airflight.

hey check out those percentages - 45% of people will never ride the superferry. Morally, ethically, and politically the superferry is wrong. They went out of their way to do things only to benefit themselves not the communities. In one year their prices will have skyrocketed and it will not be dependable service based on their inability to travel in high seas. I will NEVER ride the superferry as my ohana on all islands and friends have boycotted it as well. We will all celebrate when this company decides to make more money elsewhere.

As a matter of moral principle I choose not to use the SuperFolly. Lingle did an end-run around established procedures for a Federally mandated EIS, including manipulating the state-level legislative and judicial process. Also, I have not been to 'Oahu since I closed my music instrument stores in 1991 -- nor have I been to the mainland since that time. So, I really don't need to patronize a business founded on questionable practices anyway!

I have used it 4 times so far. My Ohana is coming over this weekend on the SF. We have found it an excellent way to go between islands and take our car. Love it!!

It's about time the local people can benefit going to see their friends and family without the outrageous prices of the monopolized airways. Keep all tourists oceanliners in Lahaina and allow only the SuperFerry in Kahului. If people didn't want a Large passenger ocean vehicle because of our Eco system they should of stopped it at the Lurline etc.
