Grove will fight Down Under

Kendall Grove of Wailuku will fight in the Bragging Rights 5 main event in Australia, the event’s promoter has announced.

K-OZ Entertainment posted Thursday on its Facebook page that Grove, a former winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, would face Jesse Taylor in a middleweight bout on Feb. 23.

“Whoever wants to fight, I’ll fight,” the 30-year-old Grove said Thursday.

Grove (18-11) won seven of his 13 fights in The Ultimate Fighting Championship, and has been fighting on other circuits since 2011, going 6-2 in that span.

“To tell you the truth, when I was with the UFC, I kind of (messed) up,” Grove said. “I forgot about it as a sport, and thought of it more as a job and as a business. I put the pressure on myself. UFC is like Ruth’s Chris. As a fighter, that’s where you want to be. I’m hooked up with some good organizations now, though.”

In the last 12 months, Grove has fought on Maui and Oahu, on the Mainland and in Canada and Poland.

“Not once did I doubt myself,” he said. “I always knew I was a fighter. I said to myself, ‘You’re a fighter, so fight.’ I’m at a point in my life where it’s back to being super-fun. I believe in myself. I always believed in myself. I needed to go through those hardships to evolve as a fighter.”

Grove’s title in “The Ultimate Fighter,” came in the show’s third season, in 2006.

Taylor (24-9), who is from California, was a finalist on the show’s seventh season, in 2008. He has one bout in the UFC, losing to C.B. Dollaway.
