Rainbow Wahine lose Big West debut

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team lost its inaugural Big West game on Thursday, falling 83-74 on the road to Cal State Fullerton.

Kamilah Martin scored 23 points for the Rainbow Wahine, going 7-for-9 from the field. Shawna-Lei Kuehu added 11 points, and Ashleigh Karaitiana had 10. Martin and Karaitiana each had eight rebounds and four assists.

Molokai High School graduate Kalei Adolpho had nine points and four rebounds for UH (4-8), which held a 35-33 halftime lead.

Tailer Butler scored 27 points off the bench for the Titans (5-8, 1-0 Big West). She was 7-for-10 from 3-point range. Chante Miles scored 20 points, and Alex Thomas contributed 15.

The Rainbow Wahine, 0-2 on the road this season, will play Saturday at UC Riverside.
