Lunas lose in fifth-place game
The Lahainaluna girls basketball team lost a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and lost to Leilehua 42-36 in the fifth-place game of the Hawaiian Airlines Division I State Championships on Friday at Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.
The Lunas (15-2) fell behind 13-5 after the first quarter, but outscored the Mules 17-2 in the second quarter.
Lahainaluna led 32-25 after three quarters, but were outscored 17-4 in the fourth.
Petiola Tuakoi scored 10 points for the Lunas in the final game of her career and Aloha Salem added nine.
Elyshia Bowden scored 18 points for the Mules.
Lahainaluna had a streak of four straight final fours at state broken this year with a loss to Iolani on Thursday.
In the Division I final, Kamehameha Kapalama overcome a 17-point deficit to beat two-time defending state champion Konawaena 45-39 in overtime.
In the Division II final, Kamehameha Hawaii beat Honokaa 55-46.
