Richmond, Kane put up fastest state-trial times
Five-time boys state champion Renny Richmond of Seabury Hall began his bid for a fourth consecutive 100-yard butterfly title by posting Friday’s fastest time in the OC16 Swimming and Diving Champion-ships trials at Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex in Honolulu.
Richmond had a time of 49.96 seconds. He also qualified fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.65, and was part of the 200 free relay team that qualified fifth in 1:30.40.
One other swimmer from the Maui Interscholastic League posted a top qualifying time – Kamehameha Maui’s Mika Kane had a 53.39 in the boys 100 backstroke, making him one of four MIL swimmers to reach that final.
