UH women fall short on road

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team lost at Cal Poly 47-43 on Saturday and dropped to third in the Big West Conference standings.

Molly Schlemer scored 20 points, including the game-clinching layup with eight seconds remaining, for the Mustangs (16-9, 10-4), who switched spots with the Rainbow Wahine (14-12, 10-5) in the standings.

Cal Poly has won six of its last seven, while Hawaii had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Kamilah Martin had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Shawna-Lei Kuehu added 10 points for Hawaii, which trailed by 13 with 12:36 left.

Molokai High alumnus Kalei Adolpho had zero points and two rebounds in 13 minutes for the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawaii went on a 16-2 run to take the lead with 7:14 remaining.

Pacific, which beat Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, is atop the conference with an 11-4 record.

The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the regular season with three home games, starting with UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.
