Collision at the plate

Sylvania Amor smacked a two-run home run and a double to lead the King Kekaulike High School softball team to a 7-6 win over Maui High in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I tournament on Wednesday at Patsy Mink Field.

Amor’s home run over the left-center field wall in the fifth inning gave fourth-seeded Na Alii (5-8) its final two runs of the game and a 7-3 lead.

King Kekaulike will play top-seeded Baldwin (10-2) today at 5 p.m. at Patsy Mink Field.

The fifth-seeded Sabers (2-11) saw their season end despite two singles from Shaine Spenser.

Today’s other semifinal will be No. 2 Lahainaluna (10-2) against No. 3 Kamehameha Maui (4-8) at 7 p.m.

Karlee Rose Perry pitched a complete-game five-hitter for Na Alii with four strikeouts and five walks. Samantha Ohigashi tossed a complete-game nine-hitter for Maui High.

Today’s action at Patsy Mink Field will start at 10 a.m. with a MIL Division II makeup game between Molokai (4-3) and St. Anthony (2-5). The Farmers clinch the regular season and a state berth with a win.

No. 5-seeded St. Anthony will play in the opener of the D-II tournament at 2:30 p.m. If St. Anthony wins the makeup game, Molokai falls to the fourth seed and would face the Trojans again.
