Buffanblu send Bears to consolation bracket
The Baldwin High School soft-ball team lost 7-4 to Punahou on Wednesday in a DataHouse Division I State Championship quarterfinal game at Rainbow Wahine Stadium in Honolulu, while Lahainaluna’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to Kapolei in a consolation game, the Lunas’ second consecutive loss on a walk-off hit.
Arianna Hashimoto hit a three-run double for the Buffanblu (17-3), and finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jacie Young earned the win, allowing one hit over 4 2/3 innings while striking out eight batters.
Punahou’s Thalen Masada stole three bases.
Sky Ellazar had three hits for the third-seeded Bears (12-4), who will play Mililani today in a consolation game.
Baldwin’s Sanae Nakoa pitched a complete game.
Kapolei (10-8) advanced to the consolation final when Kayla Higa hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lahainaluna (12-5) had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh on Haley Ann Nakamura’s RBI single, which drove in Tobi Bonifacio.
Bonifacio and Hope Morikawa each had a pair of hits for the Lunas.
Lahainaluna was sent to the consolation bracket with Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to Leilehua – the Mules scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
