Ikioka, Kato reach semifinals, will play for third

Kamehameha Schools Maui freshmen Sarah Ikioka and Kylee Kato won a quarterfinal match before being eliminated from girls doubles title contention in the Carlsmith Ball State Tennis Championships on Friday at the Fairmont Orchid Hawaii Tennis Center Mauna Lani Bay Hotel Fitness Club on the Big Island.

Ikioka and Kato, seeded sixth, defeated fourth-seeded Kylie Kam and Taylor Wardwell of Punahou 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semifinal round, then lost 6-0, 6-1 to top-seeded Kara Okazaki and Kristen Poei of Iolani.

Ikioka and Kato, the only team to take a game off Okazaki and Poei through four rounds, will face Iolani’s Brooke Alcuran and Sari Kwee, seeded second, in today’s third-place match.
