Isagawa helps Ducks earn spot in NCAA tournament
Cassy Isagawa, a Baldwin High School graduate, led the University of Oregon women’s golf team to a berth in the NCAA championship by tying for fifth individually at the West Regional on Saturday at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
Isagawa shot a 1-over-par 72 to finish three rounds at 2-under 211, five shots behind individual medalists Annie Park (68) of Southern California and Annie Reto (66) of Purdue.
The Ducks, ranked 40th in the nation by golfstat.com, qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010.
Oregon finished in a three-way tie for sixth as a team with San Jose State and Arizona at 37-over 889, one shot in front of ninth-place Baylor. The Ducks shot 16-over 300 as a team in the final round.
Eight teams move from the regional to the 24-team NCAA tournament, scheduled for May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Last year, the Ducks missed the NCAA tournament by one stroke as a team and Isagawa missed an individual berth by two strokes.
