Lanai rallies from two sets down
Joshua Bailey Belista had 13 kills and 10 assists and Hutch Reymundo added 24 assists, nine kills and three blocks as Lanai High School reached the Maui Interscholastic League Division II tournament final by rallying for a 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-10 victory over Hana on Thursday at the Baldwin gym in Wailuku.
Jayvee Llamelo had 11 kills for the Pine Lads (5-7).
“We told the boys they had to earn everything and not take anything for granted,” said Lanai coach Zachary Holsomback. “They were able to pull things together when they needed to.”
Lanai will face Molokai for the tournament title today. The teams split a pair of matches this season, both on Lanai.
“Molokai is a really strong team,” Holsomback said. “We watched them play Seabury. They are very impressive.”
Jordan Redo-Rost had 22 assists, five kills, two blocks and two aces for the Dragons (6-6), while Chasen Kanakaole contributed 27 digs and two aces and Makena Keiley had 10 kills, three aces and four digs.
