MIL teams eliminated at D-II tourney
The Maui Interscholastic League bowed out of the DataHouse Division II State Softball Championship on Thursday with Hana losing to McKinley and Molokai falling to Aiea.
In a fifth-place semifinal. Aiea beat fourth-seeded Molokai 16-3 in five innings. Raisa Strom-Okimoto batted 5-for-5 with three triples, five runs and three RBIs, and Ashley Nakamoto and Kallie Alama each had three RBIs for Na Alii (10-6).
Higuchi pitched a three-hitter for Aiea, which scored in every inning.
Tai Yamamoto drove in two runs and Amanda Venegas-Makaiwi doubled for the Farmers (7-5).
In the consolation game, McKinley beat Aiea 10-2. Tiare Sugui, Jillian Cristobal and Grace Kapesi each had three RBIs, while Kay Tehotu batted 4-for-4 for the Tigers (10-7).
Kimberly Amor allowed two runs in a complete-game performance.
Brittany Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and Shalen-Brae Hoopai also doubled for the Dragons (6-6).
Hana and Molokai both went 0-2 in the tournament and were outscored by a combined 47-9.
n KAMEHAMEHA HAWAII 9, KOHALA 4: Kekailani Wong Yuen and Mykala Tokunaga each drove in two runs for the third-seeded Warriors (17-2) in a fifth-place semifinal.
Codi Kualii, Wong Yuen and Namele Naipo-Arsiga each scored twice for Kamehameha Hawaii.
Tokunaga pitched a complete game for the Warriors with seven strikeouts.
Tomiko Coito batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cowgirls (8-12).
