Waimea beats Aiea to reach semifinals
Gaylan Matagiese hit a pair of triples and finished with four RBIs as defending champion Waimea beat Aiea 6-2 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the DataHouse Division II State Softball Championship at Patsy Mink Field in Kahului.
Sienna Santiago was 4-for-4 with three runs for the top-seeded Menehunes (12-1), who will face Saint Francis in the semifinal round today.
Deannalynn Tafiti pitched a complete game, limiting Na Alii (10-6) to three hits.
* Nanakuli 13, Kohala 2: Emma Kawaiaea came within a home run of hitting for the cycle and scored four runs for second-seeded Nanakuli (13-1), which will play Kauai for a berth in the title game.
The Golden Hawks’ Chy-anne Koko pitched five hitless innings before Kawaiaea took over for the final two after starting the game in right field. Alexis Paulo-Meyers stole three bases.
The Cowgirls fell to 8-11.
* Kauai 8, Kamehameha Hawaii 7: Kyana Hirokane and Karlyee Malapit each drove in two runs for Kauai (9-5).
Jaylen Shiroma was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Kamehameha Hawaii (16-2), the No. 3 seed, and Gayla Ha-Cabebe drove in two runs.
* Kaiser 17, Konawaena 6 (6 Innings): Rainelle Matsuoka was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs, Kyra Hoohuli-Enanoria went 3-for-5 with a double, homer and four RBIs and Kaiser earned a spot in Friday’s seventh-place game.
Chelsea Soong and Kai Hasegawa each scored three times for the Cougars (14-2).
Chrysa Dacalio was 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Konawaena, which finishes 10-9.
