Maui players compete in rugby junior worlds
Vili Tolutau played a full 80 minutes in each of the U.S. team’s first two games in the Junior Rugby World Championships at Stade Henri Desgrange in La Roche-sur-Yon, France, and Solo Anitema took the field for all three of the Americans’ pool play matches.
The U.S. team went 0-3 in the matches, losing 97-0 to South Africa on June 5, 45-3 to France on June 9 and 109-0 to England on Thursday. Maui Rugby Academy product Nuu Aiava, originally from the Big Island, played against England, which like South Africa reached the semifinal round.
The U.S. will face Scotland on Tuesday in a consolation game, and then play Samoa or Fiji for ninth or 11th place on June 23.
