Reynolds in pair of finals at national meet
Maya Reynolds posted the top preliminary 400-meter time in the girls 13-14 division of USA Track and Field’s youth championships Friday in Edwardsville, Ill., earning the top seed for Sunday’s final.
Reynolds, a freshman-to-be at Kihei Charter School, had a time of 59.56 seconds. Second-fastest was Likkaya Keyes of Illinois, in 59.86.
Reynolds will also race in the 200 final today at Southern Illinois University’s Korte Stadium after a preliminary time of 26.61 on Thursday that was second only to the 26.47 by Jada Laye of Illinois.
Selai Damuni posted a time of 13.51 in the 100 prelims Friday, which ranked 14th. The eight finalists ran 13.27 or better.
Damuni, an incoming freshman at Kamehameha Maui, also finished ninth in the pentathlon on Tuesday with 1,844 points. Emily deStefano of Arizona won with 2,716. In the pentathlon events, Damuni’s top finish was third, in the shot put, with a throw of 30 feet, 11 inches. She was fifth in the pentathlon long jump (14-4), tied for sixth in the high jump (4-1 1/4), was ninth in the 100 hurdles (20.93) and finished 10th in the 800 (2:59.77).
