Serrano’s home run in 10th helps Na Koa topple Stars

Ray Serrano hit two home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the top of the 10th inning, as Na Koa Ikaika Maui beat the Hawaii Stars 9-7 on Tuesday at Wong Stadium.

Serrano’s blast scored Brandon Gregorich, who was hit by a pitch with two outs.

Serrano finished 2-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs, while Jeremy Williams went 3-for-5 for Maui (5-2). Waylen Sing Chow homered and drove in a pair and Gregorich scored twice.

Josh Larson (2-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings and Byron Minnich recorded his third save with a scoreless 10th.

Brian Escanio (0-1) allowed three runs in two innings for Hilo (2-5).

The Stars’ Dane Sardinha had two RBIs and Anthony Williams scored twice.

The teams will play Game 2 of the six-game series today at 5:30 p.m.
