Maui falls one win short of regional title

Maui lost to San Marcos, Calif., in the winner-take-all final of the Pony Mustang baseball West Regional tournament on Sunday at Los Alamitos, Calif.

Maui beat San Marcos 9-8 to force the second final, then lost 8-7.

In the first game, Maui’s Jarrett Harper hit two homers, including a two-run shot during a three-run sixth inning to make it 9-6.

Harper finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Haku Dudoit went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Reyn Okita and Tiger Caulford each had two hits.

In the second game, Maui fell behind 8-1 before scoring two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.

The game ended on a lineout to shortstop with the bases loaded.

Okita and Dudoit each had two hits for Maui, which finished 5-2 in the tournament.

San Marcos will play in the World Series in Burleson, Texas.
