Maui wrestlers can’t pin down much success

Bubba Jaramillo and Noah Caparida were eliminated at the ASICS/Vaughan USA Wrestling Cadet & Junior National Championships on Thursday in Fargo, N.D.

Jaramillo, a senior-to-be at Lahainaluna High School, lost 10-0 to Delaware’s Willie Davis, defeated Jay Oakes of New York 14-3, and lost to Walker Dempsey of New Jersey 10-0.

Caparida, a senior-to-be at Molokai High School, lost 11-0 to Kamaal Abdush-Shakur of Georgia and 10-0 to Sam Crane of Missouri.

On Wednesday, Josten Saribay, a junior-to-be at King Kekaulike High School, won two matches by technical fall, then lost twice and was eliminated.

Saribay beat Indiana’s Caleb Babcock 17-7, and Scott Danner of Idaho 17-6 in the 113-pound class.

Zack Wigzell, a Napili club wrestler from Kona, also won two matches, then lost two on Wednesday.

Wigzell pinned Jakob Discher of Utah and defeated Alex Lucas of Ohio 10-0 in the 106-pound division.

Christian Balagso, a junior-to-be at Lahainaluna, dropped both his matches at 120 pounds on Wednesday.

Thomas Stevenson, a sophomore-to-be at Baldwin High School, also lost both his matches on Wednesday.
