Na Koa complete six-game sweep

Chris Waters allowed three hits in seven innings and a trio of relievers finished off the shutout as Na Koa Ikaika Maui defeated the East Bay Lumberjacks 10-0 on Monday at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, completing a sweep of the teams’ six-game series.

Chema Sanchez hit a three-run homer for Maui, and finished with four RBIs. Waylen Sing Chow, who started the game in center field and later pitched in the ninth inning, was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Every player in Na Koa’s starting lineup reached base at least once.

Waters (1-2) struck out six batters, and lowered his ERA this year to 1.69. T.J. Macy pitched the eighth, Naoki Ya-magami retired the one batter he faced in the ninth and Sing-Chow got the final two outs, striking out Demetrius Adams to end the game.

Na Koa improved to 8-1 against East Bay this year.

Maui, second in the Pacific Association standings, is scheduled to begin a five-day, six-game home series against the first-place San Rafael Pacifics on Wednesday. San Rafael holds a 1-1/2-game lead.

Justin James had half of the Lumberjacks’ six hits, and stole a base.
