Central East Maui loses opener

Central East Maui lost 16-2 to Chula Vista, Calif., on the opening day of the Little League Majors Division West Regional on Friday in San Bernardino, Calif.

Central East Maui scored its runs in the final inning.

Chula Vista’s Grant Holman struck out 12 batters in 4 2/3 innings and had five hits. Giancarlo Cortez had five RBIs.

Central East Maui’s Kainalu Kaililaau struck out four in three innings and Kea Aguirre had three strikeouts in three innings.

There was an 18-minute delay due to a failure of the lights before the first pitch.

Central East Maui will next play Belmont, Calif., on Sunday, then Las Vegas on Monday and Chandler, Ariz., on Wednesday. Central East Maui will not play St. George, Utah.

The top four teams in the six-team regional will advance to the semifinal.
