Na Koa conclude Japan trip with victory

Na Koa Ikaika Maui completed their trip to Japan with a 6-4 victory over the Albirex Niigata on Monday.

Na Koa scored five runs in the third inning on RBI doubles by Jeremy Williams and Chema Sanchez, run-scoring singles by Ray Serrano and Jimmy Rohan, and Nick Valdez’s sacrifice fly.

Niigata scored two in the fifth and two more in the eighth before Maui added one in the ninth on Serrano’s double.

Jesse Smith, T.J. Macy, Zach Foster and Chris Mobley pitched for Na Koa.

Maui finished 3-3 against Japan Baseball Challenge League teams on the trip.

Sanchez, an corner infielder, was traded to the Ishikawa Million Stars for pitcher Cardozo Tucker.

Na Koa will play a five-game series against the Hawaii Stars in Hilo starting Wednesday. Maui will host Hawaii in a four-game series starting Aug. 14.
