Sabers, Trojans win bowling openers

The Maui High School and St. Anthony boys and girls bowling teams each earned 3-0 wins Saturday at Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku in the opening matches of the Maui Interscholastic League season.

Maui High defeated Lahainaluna, and St. Anthony beat King Kekaulike.

Brendan Baker had a 231 game for the Sabers in boys competition, and finished the match with a 200 average. Trent Hori had a 204 game. Tyler Ihu (121) had the top score for the Lunas.

The Trojans got a 151 from Chaz Fernandez, and a 142 from Noa Castleton. Na Alii’s Shane Quillayen recorded the match’s top game, a 161.

Jessica Saki of Maui High had the high game in the girls matches, with a 147 – one better than teammate Stephanie Imada. Lahainaluna was led by Alisha Coston-Chung’s 123.

Dominique Funes had a 102 for St. Anthony, and Sarah Nolette had a 100. Dtanbi Ikeda of King Kekaulike had a 96.

Kamehameha Maui is to begin its debut bowling season on Wednesday against Baldwin at the Maui Bowling Center.
