UH stuns No. 1 Texas in volleyball opener
The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team started its season in the best way possible – an upset of defending national champion and top-ranked Texas.
Emily Hartong had 18 kills and Molokai High School graduate Kalei Adolpho finished with 11 kills and a match-high seven blocks as the Rainbow Wahine beat the Longhorns 25-19, 19-25, 27-25, 25-16 in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Friday at the Stan Sheriff?Center in Honolulu.
Ginger Long, a Kamehameha Schools Maui graduate, had two digs for Hawaii, which will face Texas-El Paso today.
Mita Uiato had 50 assists, Nikki Taylor contributed 10 kills and Ali Longo had 17 digs for No. 11 Hawaii, which closed out the match on a 13-4 run.
Hawaii scored the final two points of the third set on a block by Taylor and Adolpho and a kill by Hartong.
