Grossman captures Iolani Invitational

Seabury Hall’s Dakota Grossman won the Iolani Invitational cross country meet on Oahu, finishing the three-mile course at Kualoa Ranch in 17 minutes, 42 seconds.

“Because it’s my last year, I really wanted to win today. I am really excited about my time,” said Grossman, a three-time state cross country champion.

Grossman led from the start and beat runner-up Mikayla Florez of California’s Riverbank High School by 29 seconds. Heidi Smith, of Washington’s Glacier Peak High, finished third in 18:18.

Grossman is the first Hawaii runner to win the Iolani Invitational since Hawaii Baptist’s Lauren Ho in 2004.
