Hyundai extends deal as sponsor of Kapalua event

The PGA Tour and Hyundai Motor America announced on Thursday a two-year extension of the car company’s title sponsorship of the Tournament of Champions at the Kapalua Plantation Course.

The event has been at the Plantation Course since 1999, and the new deal keeps it in place through 2015.

The next tournament will be held Jan. 3-6, and will resume the tour’s 2013-2014 schedule following a 1 1/2-month break. The tour will announce its official schedule for the 2013-14 season on Monday.

“We are very pleased to have Hyundai continue as title sponsor of the Tournament of Champions,” tour commissioner Tim Finchem said in a news release.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Hyundai over these next two years to meet its objectives as title sponsor.”

Seoul Broadcasting System will continue its relationship with the tournament under terms of a 10-year agreement that began in 2010. Serving as the tournament’s title sponsor in 2010, SBS brought Hyundai in as title sponsor in 2011, at which time the tournament’s original “Tournament of Champions” name was reintroduced to highlight the nature of its field, which is limited to tour winners from the previous season.
