Lenny adds to resume with Battle of the Paddle crown
Kai Lenny of Spreckelsville made an illustrious addition to his already impressive list of stand-up paddling accomplishments Saturday, winning the Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle elite-division race at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, Calif.
“This one is definitely one of the sweetest ones ever, just because this race is so gnarly,” Lenny was quoted as saying by SUP Magazine, which on Thursday named him the Stand Up Paddler of the Year.
Lenny owns two Stand Up World Tour series titles, and a World Series race series championship. He is ranked No. 1 on the World Tour this year, and No. 2 in the World Series.
Connor Baxter of Pukalani finished second on Saturday, and California’s Danny Ching, the defending champion, was third.
Lenny was last year’s runner-up, finishing a spot ahead of Baxter, who won the event in 2011.
