Lenny named year’s top SUP competitor
Kai Lenny of Spreckelsville was named the Stand Up Paddler of the Year during the SUP Magazine Awards ceremony Thursday in San Clemente, Calif., leading a Maui sweep of the top three spots.
Lenny is ranked No. 1 in the Stand Up World Tour surf rankings, with wins in two events so far this year, and is second in the Stand Up World Series race rankings, with three wins.
Slater Trout of Lahaina finished second in the SUP Awards voting. He has wins in three California events this year – the Surftech Shootout in Santa Cruz, the Santa Monica Pier Festival and the Race the Lake of the Sky in Lake Tahoe.
Connor Baxter of Pukalani was third after winning the award each of the previous two years. Baxter is No. 1 in the World Series standings.
New Zealand’s Annabel Anderson was named the Female Paddler of the Year.
