OC16 to show game between Lunas, Bears

The Maui Interscholastic League football game between Lahainalu-na and Baldwin high schools on Oct. 18 at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku will be televised by OC16, the channel’s sports director confirmed Wednesday.

“These are two marquee teams that do have that appeal, even beyond Maui,” said Dave Vinton.

“We have had state tournament games for the Maui teams, but a true league game has been a goal of mine for some time.”

Vinton and MIL executive director Joe Balangitao said the kickoff, scheduled for 7 p.m., could be moved to an earlier time. An earlier start would help OC16 staff return to Oahu the same night, though Vinton said the game will be carried even if kickoff remains at the scheduled time.

Lahainaluna defeated Baldwin in the teams’ first matchup of the year on Friday.
