Rainbow Wahine sweep Big West opener

Nikki Taylor had 20 kills and Mita Uiato had 35 assists as the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept Cal State Fullerton in the Big West Conference opener for both teams Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The scores were 25-22, 25-5, 25-20.

Hawaii’s Kalei Adolpho, a Molokai High School alumnus, had eight kills, four blocks and one ace. Teammate Ginger Long, a Kamehameha Maui graduate, didn’t play.

The Rainbow Wahine, ranked No. 6 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, improved to 12-1.

Tai Manu-Olevao had 10 kills and Ali Longo contributed 18 digs for Hawaii.

Leah Best, Alyse Hensley and Bre Moreland each had six kills for the Titans (7-6), who hit negative-.121 in the second set.

The Rainbow Wahine will host UC Riverside on Sunday.
