UH dealt first loss of season

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 15-25, 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11 to San Diego in the last match of the Chevron Rainbow Wa-hine Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Emily Hartong had 30 kills and 12 digs for UH (2-1), ranked 11th in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Jade Vorster had 10 kills, and Molokai High School graduate Kalei Adolpho added seven.

Ginger Long, a Kamehameha Maui graduate, had one kill for the Rainbow Wahine.

The Toreros (2-1) got 22 kills from Sandra Lozic.

Hawaii, San Diego and top-ranked Texas, the defending national champion, all went 2-1 in the tournament.

Hawaii will next play in the Wahine Volleyball Classic, starting with a match against New Mexico State on Thursday. No. 12 UCLA and Santa Clara are also in the field.
