Cyr tied for 10th after round of 17 pars, one birdie

King Kekaulike High School graduate Sam Cyr dropped into a tie for 10th place Wednesday in the second round of a Web.com Tour qualifying tournament first-stage event at St. Augustine, Fla.

Cyr carded a 1-under-par 71 – with a birdie and 17 pars – at St. Johns Golf & Country Club that left him at 6-under 138. He began the day tied for sixth.

Florida’s T.J. Vogel (68) was in the lead at 133.

Approximately 29 players will advance to the field of about 450 for the second stage, scheduled for later this month at six locations. Roughly 156 players will then earn berths in the six-round final, set for Dec. 12-17 in La Quinta, Calif., at which a card, or a degree of exemption, can be earned for the Web.com Tour, which is one step below the PGA Tour.

Cyr earned the largest paycheck of his career, $72,000, for finishing second in the Asian Tour’s Mercuries Taiwan Masters earlier this month.
