Maui High clinches boys bowling crown

Baldwin High School defeated Kamehameha Maui 2-1 in a boys bowling match on Saturday at Maui Bowling Center on Wailuku, clinching the Maui Interscholastic League title for Maui High.

The Baldwin girls team extended its perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win.

The St. Anthony boys team defeated King Kekaulike 2-1, and Na Alii won the girls match 3-0 by forfeit.

Jaylen Kama-Cabanting had the top game for the Baldwin boys, a 174. The Bears (16-8) also got a 170 from Nathan Barcoma and a 161 from Justin Palafox. Russell Nagamine of the Warriors (15-9) had the high game of the match, a 186. Avinash Singh had a 167, and Justin Fernandez a 157.

Kristen Espania-Kaeo had games of 172 and 164 in the girls match as Baldwin improved to 24-0. Yu Sasaki added a 171 and a 153, and Janiesse Palafox had a 152. Destinee Murray bowled a 202

for Kamehameha (15-9), and also had a 164. Jaclyn Gorman rolled a 119 game, and Chrystal Cardoza had a 117.

Chaz Fernandez had a 192 for the St. Anthony boys, who improved to 14-10. Michael Fernandez added a 164, and Christian Altura-Taal had a 157. Shane Quillayen’s 188 was the high score for King Kekaulike (4-20), and Garrett Harrell had a 169.

In the girls match, Dtanbi Ikeda had a 141 for Na Alii (5-19), and Aislinn Smith a 120. Laura Dodson had a 125 for the Trojans (6-17-1).
