Na Alii, Dragons swept at volleyball championships
King Kekaulike and Hana of the Maui Interscholastic League both lost first-round matches on Tuesday during the New City Nissan Girls Volleyball State Championship.
In the Division I tournament at Keaau High School on the Big Island, Aiea defeated King Kekaulike 25-21, 25-20, 25-10.
In the D-II tournament at McKinley High School on Oahu, Konawaena defeated Hana 25-17, 25-12, 25-21.
Megan Maafala-Maiava had 12 kills and Roina Maafala added eight for Aiea. Destyni Grace finished with 27 assists and Lole Kalani-Liulaa contributed 13 digs.
King Kekaulike’s Treyanna Freitas had 14 kills and 10 digs, while Kalia Aguera finished with 23 assists. Sirinya Yothawong had nine digs and Brennalye Rodrigues contributed two blocks.
King Kekaulike will play a consolation match today at 3:30 p.m. against Farrington.
No match statistics were reported for the Konawaena-Hana match.
The Dragons will play Pahoa in a consolation match today at 3:30 p.m.
MIL D-I champion Kamehameha Maui is seeded fourth and will open play today in a quarterfinal match at 5 p.m. against Moanalua at Kamehameha Hawaii.
Na Menehune beat Leilehua 25-13, 25-7, 25-11 on Tuesday.
MIL D-II champion Seabury Hall is seeded second and will open today in a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. against St. Francis at Kaimuki. The Saints defeated Kalaheo 25-19, 17-25, 25-16, 25-18 on Tuesday.
