Seki places ninth at state air riflery championships

Tia Seki of St. Anthony High School finished ninth in the girls division during the Civilian Marksmanship Program Air Riflery State Championships on Tuesday at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Oahu.

Seki, the Maui Interscholastic League girls champion, scored a 525 with 15 bull’s-eyes. She posted a 192 in the prone position, a 167 for standing and a 166 for kneeling.

The girls state champion was Maryknoll’s Nadia Hata, who scored a 548.

The highest boys finisher from the MIL on Tuesday was St. Anthony’s James Thompson, who placed 18th with a 505 (11x). He scored a 186 for prone, a 158 for standing and a 161 for kneeling.

The boys state champion was Waiakea’s Justin Gray, who scored a 537.

The girls team champion was Pearl City, which scored 2,099. St. Anthony finished fourth among the five teams with a 1,963.

The boys team champion was Mid-Pacific, which scored a 2,092. St. Anthony finished sixth among the seven teams with a 1,943.

The other MIL girls competitors at the meet were St. Anthony’s Amelia Imada (33rd; 484, 6X), Jade Boren (34th; 484, 6X) and Hannah Parker (37th; 470, 1X); Maui High’s Tiffany Kokubun (19th; 515, 9X); and Molokai’s Pomai Gomes (27th; 490, 6X).

The other MIL boys competitors were St. Anthony’s Luke Gage (27th; 489, 4X), Yusuke Yamagami (32nd; 477, 5X) and Jonathan Ibanez (33rd; 472, 11X); and Mo-lokai’s Quintin Chow (24th; 495, 10X) and Christopher Naputi, the MIL boys champion, (28th; 486, 7X).
