Camina wins second Paradise Cup title

Michelle Camina of Kaanapali won her second Paradise Cup bodybuilding title Saturday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel Ballroom on Oahu, taking first place in the women’s masters figure medium division at the 30th annual event.

“I’ve done shows before, so I had an idea of what to expect,” said the 44-year-old Camina, who also won a masters figure crown at the 2011 Paradise Cup. “I don’t do any comparisons, though, really, on who is going to be there. I mainly focus on bringing my best game.”

Camina recorded an open-division runner-up finish in this year’s Stingrey Classic, and in masters competition last year placed second in the Ikaika Bodybuilding Championships and third at the Paradise Cup. Last week’s win served as a qualifier for other competitions, and she said she is hoping to take part in multiple Mainland events.

“My training has gotten intense,” said Camina, who also has a purple belt in karate. “I’ve learned how to train better instead of just harder. My training has just increased to build muscle. Instead of of just trying to maintain, I’m incorporating CrossFit, biometrics, core training – all these things that focus on building muscle.”
