Cyr in tie for 51st place at halfway point of qualifying event

King Kekaulike High School graduate Sam Cyr fell into a tie for 51st place after the second round of a Tour second-stage qualifying event Wednesday at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif.

Cyr had five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey in his round of 2-over-par 74, which left him at 2-over 146 for 36 holes.

The leader was California’s Justin Itzen, who was at 135 after a second-round 66.

The top 20 plus ties after four rounds will advance to next month’s six-round final at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif., where multiple levels of exemption will be available for the Tour, one level below the PGA Tour.
