Cyr is eight strokes behind at second-stage qualifier

Sam Cyr, a 2005 King Kekaulike High School graduate, opened with an even-par 72 in the first round of his second-stage qualifier for the Tour on Tuesday at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif.

He is tied for 41st in the 79-player field. Jake Younan-Wise, of Gilbert, Ariz., leads with a 64.

Cyr, currently 569th in the Official World Golf Rankings, won his first stage qualifier by six strokes after finishing with back-to-back 64s last month in St. Augustine, Fla.

The top 20 plus ties from this site will earn spots for the six-round final, set for Dec. 12-17 in La Quinta, Calif., where multiple levels of exemption are available for the Tour, one step below the PGA Tour.
