Hendrickson posts 9.57 at HIC Pro

Tanner Hendrickson of Haiku posted a near-perfect score on one of his waves on the way to winning his fourth-round heat during the HIC Pro, and three other Maui competitors also reached the final 32 in the HIC Pro on Friday at Sunset Beach on the North Shore.

Hendrickson had a ride that earned a 9.57 from the judges – the second-best score of the Triple Crown of Surfing qualifier, behind only a 9.73 by Haiku’s Ian Walsh in the second round – and posted a total score of 18.40, which matched Walsh for the best of the event.

Walsh and Lahaina’s Dusty Payne advanced with second-place finishes Friday, and Ian Gentil won his heat.

Kai Barger of Haiku finished fourth in the same heat as Hendrickson after winning a round-of-96 heat earlier in the day.

Kevin Sullivan of Lahaina was third and Olamana Eleogram of Hana finished fourth in a round-of-64 heat in which they were grouped together.
