Lenny reaches La Torche quarterfinals

Kai Lenny of Spreckelsville got through two heats of the La Torche Pro on Thursday in Brittney, France, putting the Stand Up World Tour points leader into the quarterfinals of the season-ending event.

Lenny placed second in his fourth-round heat, then won his fifth-round heat with a 14.83, the second-highest score of the round.

Lenny will face Brazil’s Lucas Medeiros in the quarterfinal round.

Brazil’s Caio Vaz, the only competitor who can catch Lenny in the race for the season title, also reached the quarterfinals, and a pairing with France’s Antoine Delpero.

Lenny is a two-time tour champion, and also claimed his second Stand Up World Series crown this year in addition to winning the Battle of the Paddle elite-division race.

The two other Maui competitors in the La Torche field were eliminated Thursday.

Lahaina’s Zane Schweitzer finished third in a fourth-round heat in which Haiku’s Kody Kerbox was second – Kerbox then placed third in the following round.
